We define social justice as equal, equitable and fair access to the resources and opportunities essential for an excellent quality of life. We believe that true justice requires active accountability for the power-holders and organizations that maintain barriers to that access.
Our Mission in Action
Cultural Visibility & Resilience
We host public events that celebrate Black culture and heritage. By creating spaces where Black Juneauites can celebrate authentically with allies, we directly counter historical marginalization.
Advocacy through Media
In collaboration with KTOO, we produce Culture Rich Conversations, a radio program dedicated to the Black lived experience in Alaska. This platform serves as a tool for justice by shining a light on systemic inequities, challenging narratives and educating the public.
Economic Empowerment
We are scaling our “Black Excellence” Scholarship into a comprehensive Life-Advancement Grant to provide youth and adults with access to higher education, vocational training and artistic development.
Social & Emotional Wellness
Through initiatives like the Black Hair Academy and environmental justice programs, we address “quiet” barriers to equity—such as self-esteem and cultural pride—while encouraging our community’s relationship with the natural environment.
